Job Description
Our client based in Staplehurst is looking to recruit a PCB Electronics Engineer. They are manufacturers of electrical calibration equipment and calibration software for calibration laboratories. They also operate a 17025 Accredited Calibration laboratory.
PCB/Electronics Designer
Job Purpose:
The PCB Design Engineer – Analogue Electronics will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimising printed circuit boards (PCBs) for high-precision analogue measurement systems used in electrical metrology. This role requires deep expertise in analogue circuit design, low-noise layout techniques, and a strong understanding of the challenges associated with ultra-precise DC and low-frequency signal integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and layout multi-layer PCBs for analog circuits used in precision measurement instruments (e.g., voltmeters, resistance bridges, current sources).
- Collaborate with analog design engineers to translate schematics into manufacturable PCB layouts with a focus on signal integrity, thermal management, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
- Optimize PCB designs for low noise, low leakage, and high stability in DC and LF applications.
- Generate and maintain design documentation, including schematics, layout files, BOMs, and fabrication/assembly drawings.
- Work closely with mechanical, firmware, and test engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and performance.
- Support prototype assembly, bring-up, and debugging of new designs.
- Interface with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors to ensure quality and manufacturability.
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
- Proven experience in PCB design for analog electronics, preferably in precision instrumentation or metrology.
- Proficiency with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, Pulsonix).
- Strong understanding of analog circuit principles, including low-noise design, grounding strategies, and parasitic effects.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for test (DFT) principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the metrology industry or with high-precision DC/LF measurement systems.
- Knowledge of calibration standards, thermal EMFs, and guarding techniques.
- Familiarity with EMC/EMI mitigation in analog designs.
- Ability to program in C or Basic for PIC Development a bonus
Key Competencies:
- Attention to detail and precision
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Cross-functional collaboration
- Time management and prioritisation
- Continuous learning and innovation
