NO SUMMER BREAK
We're not going on a Summer Holiday
By Earl Street - 11/Aug/2008

The sun may be shining over Blighty, but for nearly one quarter of all UK workers there is no summer holiday to speak of.

A recent study indicates that individuals, and not their bosses, are to blame for this current phenomenon. One quarter of all UK workers aren’t taking a summer holiday this year, despite Britain being an already overworked nation with a struggling work/life balance. Whilst Managers cannot ‘insist’ on employees taking holiday time every good manager knows that a rested work force is a productive one. Some top tips to keep an eye on annual leave taken by employees are:

  • - Get a wipe-clean wall calendar and assign each member of the team a different coloured marker-pen or sticker. Mark off key projects and deadlines in another colour, and ask staff to mark their holiday time on the wall calendar.
  • - For a more ‘private’ form of this keep the information for the entire team on one excel spreadsheet as a point of reference for everyone, including and especially, the Manager.

Out of those who have booked timed off 51% have booked their time off at work well in advance, whilst 3% are intending to ask for time off last minute

However, if your employees fall in to the 77% of employees who will be taking some R&R this summer (or for the unfortunate 3% who will ask last minute!) callEarl Street for all your temporary recruitmentneeds for holiday cover!
